Feeling confident in your hijab doesn’t happen overnight it’s a process and your own journey. I know exactly how you feel…I’ve been there and done that sis.
I started wearing the hijab from a very young because I’ll be straight up my mum told me to. I was just told to wear the hijab it’s part of your life no questions and then as I grew up I questioned it, why do I wear it?
Many of our cultural parents were told to do this and do that and weren’t taught the true meaning and beauty of hijab and modesty. So they teach that to their children and that passes down generations and hijab just becomes part of culture. I’m here to tell you it’s far greater than that sister.
I want to teach you the beauty of your hijab and why you wear it. So next time you put your hijab on sis you’ll feel proud, confident and powerful.
Let’s get to it!
What does hijab mean?
When the term ‘hijab’ comes up everyone automatically has a vision of a Muslim girl wearing hijab which isn’t entirely wrong but it’s only part of the definition. ‘khimar’ which is mentioned in the Qur’an means a covering which refers to the head covering, ‘Hijab’ means a barrier or a curtain.
True Hijab is not only dressing modestly for both men and women, it’s also about good character and striving for a sound clean heart. showing kindness to everyone including family, relatives, the poor, and needy (and animals too of course!) and giving charity. What’s so beautiful is that a smile or a kind word is seen as a charity in Islam.
Did you know in the Quran Allah our all-loving creator commanded for men to practise hijab first?
Why Your not confident in your hijab-meaning of hijab?
Today we live in a highly materialised world where beauty standards for women have led to cosmetic surgery, depression and many other mental health disorders. Isn’t it funny how these same beauty standards were created by men? Why should we dress a certain way because men have said so? The same men look at women like they’re a piece of meat.
Hijab and modesty break you from the shackles and expectations of society. it’s your identity that you actually own! Allah teaches you to cover your beauty as a form of self-respect and guess what, without speaking you demand self-respect from men. You’re not going to be judged based on the shape of your body but based on your intellect and character.
Just to make it clear, your hijab is not for your husband because if that were the case Muslim women would start wearing it after marriage. See the logic?
The main reason We wear hijab is an act of obedience to Allah, our All-loving Most merciful creator whose infinite love brought you into existence. It brings us closer to Him and makes us conscious of Him. Wouldn’t you do anything to make someone you love happy and create a stronger bond with them?
Hijab is an honour and a gift Allah has given to you, He carved you into a precious untouchable pearl that no one deserves until they prove it to you. Once you internalise that confidence in your hijab will become more achievable.
